The Irish Wolfhound that famed throughout Europe became almost extinct in the early 19th Century but for the efforts of Captain George Graham whose work rescued the breed by gathering all the remaining strains to re-breed the Wolfhound. A wonderful story of renewal and a potent image adopted by Belleek in its trademark as a symbol of the re-birth of craft in Ireland. The figure of the Irish Wolf-hound was made in two sizes for the Belleek Collectors Society in the 1980s and 1990s but the design dates from as early as 1978.
