Product Details

The Lough Derg Holy Water Font in cast bronze from Wild Goose Studio is a beautiful tribute to the history of Irish saints and rich with Christian meaning.

Lough Derg, bordering Counties Clare, Galway, and Tipperary in the River Shannon Basin, has for over 1500 years been an important site of Catholic pilgrimage. An island in the center of the lake holds a small shrine to St. Patrick, who made a pilgrimage here in the 5th century, requiring contemporary visitors to take a boat and follow in the footsteps of the Patron Saint of Ireland. Subsequent Irish saints followed suit as well, like St. Brigid, whose cross is carved into a stone on the island, which forms the basis of this elegantly designed holy font.

Wild Goose Studio was founded in 1970 by artists Brian Scott-McCarthy and Kathleen Smyth to create a range of artifacts inspired by Ireland’s rich cultural heritage and contemporary design. Based in Kinsale, County Cork.

Original design by Kathleen Smyth. Hand cast in Ireland. Measures 14 cm x 9 cm (5.5 in x 3.5 in).
