The Celtic Cross itself is a uniquely Irish creation, the first of which date back nearly to the time of St. Patrick himself in the 5th century. The Trinity knot itself is an adapted form of the classic Celtic knot, which has been used in Irish artwork since pre-Christian times and symbolizes the Christian Trinity of Father, Son, and Holy Spirit.
